ICC Test Rankings: Virat Kohli-led India can rise to No. 2

Galle, Aug 10: India can rise to number 2 in the ICC Test Rankings table if they whitewash Sri Lanka 3-0 in the upcoming series, which starts on August 12.

India, currently 5th in world Test rankings, will have to make a clean sweep of the 3-match rubber to reach No. 2. However, this will also depend on the outcome of the 5th and final Ashes Test between England and Australia which begins at The Oval on August 20.

The rankings predictor as on ICC's website

According to ICC's Test rankings' predictor, if India win 3-0 and the final Ashes Test ends in a draw or Australia win, then Virat Kohli-led side climbs to No. 2. The Ashes series would have ended 3-1 in favour of England.

A 2-1 win for India and 3-2 triumph for England in Ashes will keep Kohli's men at 5th position. However, if Sri Lanka whitewash India 3-0, then India will slip to No. 7.

At the moment, Sri Lanka are at 7th while Australia are No. 2. England are placed at 6th.
