  • England will be looking to win back-to-back men's Tests against Australia for the first time since August 2015 after picking up a three-wicket win in the third match of the 2023 men's Ashes series; indeed, that was their first win against Australia since September 2019.
  • Australia are undefeated in their last seven men's Tests against England at Old Trafford (W4 D3) and haven't lost to them at the Manchester venue since a 103-run loss in August 1981.
  • England have lost only one of their last 16 men's Tests played at Old Trafford (W13 D2) and have won their last four Tests on the bounce at the venue; although, their only defeat at the venue in that time came against Australia in September 2019.
  • Australia are the only visiting team to have won more men's Tests than they've lost in England (W57 D68 L55); although; they'll be looking to avoid back-to-back losses in such fixtures for the first time since August 2015 after succumbing to a three-wicket loss in their most recent encounter.
  • England batters have played a pull shot on 9.6% of balls faced in men's Tests in 2023, the highest rate of any team in the format and more than four percentage points higher than next-best Bangladesh (5.3%); however, England's batting strike rate on pull shots of 144.2 is the third lowest of any team.
  • Australia have dropped 32 catches in men's Tests in 2023, more than any other team in the format, and have a catch success rate of 71% which is the second lowest of any team ahead of only Ireland (65%).
  • Joe Root (England) has scored 790 runs at an average of 60.8 in men's Tests at Old Trafford and needs just 29 runs more to eclipse Denis Compton (818) for the most Test runs of any player at the venue; although, he's scored 50+ runs in only one of his last eight Test innings there.
  • Steve Smith (Australia) has scored 51 runs through square leg in the 2023 men's Ashes series, more than any other player in the series; in fact, Smith's 136 runs through square leg in men's Tests in 2023 are also more than any other player in the format in that time.
  • Stuart Broad (England) has dismissed David Warner 17 times in Tests while only two bowlers in men's Test history have dismissed a single batter more times (Glenn McGrath dismissed Michael Atherton 19 times, Alec Bedser dismissed Arthur Morris 18 times); Broad (598) is just two shy of 600 Test wickets overall.
  • Mitchell Marsh (Australia) has scored three centuries across his last five Tests against England and has a career Test batting average against them of 50.5 which is his highest against any team; in fact, England are the only team against whom Marsh has logged a century in Tests.
