Commentary

Sunrisers Hyderabad did everything right as they registered a clinical 8-wicket win over Punjab Kings in the IPL 2023 encounter and secured their first win of the season.

The Aiden Markram-led side had a comprehensive show in front of a packed home ground in Hyderabad.

Rahul Tripathi scored an unbeaten 74 off 48 balls while captain Markram played a fine cameo of 37* off 21 balls as SRH chased down the target of 144 in 17.1 overs to win the game by 7 wickets.

Earlier in the day, spinner Mayank Markande - starred with the ball in his debut for SRH - picked up a brilliant four-for to restrict the Punjab Kings to a below-par total of 143 for 9 in 20 overs.

Markande returned with figures of 4/15 in the four overs he bowled and turned the game in his team's favour.

Shikhar Dhawan the Punjab Kings' captain played one of the best knocks of his IPL career and posted an unbeaten 99 off 66 balls. The southpaw was the lone warrior with the bat for PBKS and kept scoring runs even as he kept losing wickets at the other end.
