  • After winning the first Test by a margin of 113 runs, India are set to script history and register their first men’s bilateral Test series win in South Africa if they go on to defeat South Africa in the second Test at the Wanderers.
  • The Wanderers is the only South African venue where India are yet to lose a single men’s Test match, the Men in Blue have played five games in the venue and have won two (D3).
  • India are currently on a two-match winning streak in away men’s Test matches outside Asia, they have never won three such games in a row.
  • South Africa have won three of their last four men’s Test matches played at the Wanderers Stadium, with the only loss during this run coming against England in January 2020.
  • 93 of the 128 catches that India had caught in 2021 had been non-keeper catches, only England had registered more such catches in that calendar year (103).
  • India had collectively bowled 10 no balls per Test match since the beginning of 2021, the most by any team in the format (141 no balls in 14 games); South Africa were second in the list averaging 7.8 no balls per game (47 no balls in six matches).
  • Indian batters have a good connection rate of 63% in men’s Test matches since the beginning of 2021, the least of all teams in the format.
  • Rishabh Pant (India) has struck a boundary once every 6.7 balls in the ongoing Test series, the best such rate for any batter, he has struck a total of seven boundaries in the First Test having faced 47 deliveries.
  • Aiden Markram (South Africa) requires 162 more runs to become the 32nd Proteas batter to reach to the 2000 runs milestone in men’s Test cricket; if he achieves the landmark in his next innings, he will become the sixth fastest South African batter to do so.
  • Since the beginning of 2019, the batting trio of Virat Kohli (two), Ajinkya Rahane (three) and Cheteshwar Pujara (one) have registered a total of 6 centuries; in the two years prior to that (2017-18), the three batsmen scored 18 tons, three times more than what they have achieved since 2019.
