Commentary
Rinku Singh and Sunil Narine late cameos went in vain as Marcus Stoinis' two wickets in two balls helps Lucknow Super Giants seal a IPL 2022 playoff spot via a 2-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders.
After Quinton de Kock (140 not out off 70 balls) and KL Rahul (68 not out off 51 balls) shared an unbeaten record opening stand to take LSG to 210, KKR went agonisingly close, but Stoinis held the nerve as Evin Lewis took a stunning catch to dismiss Rinku (40 off 15 balls) to seal the match.
Apart from Rinku, skipper Shreyas Iyer (50 off 29 balls), Nitish Rana (42 off 22 balls) and Sunil Narine (21 not out off 7 balls) also contributed with the bat for KKR. For LSG, Stoinis (3 for 23 in 2 overs) and the impressive Mohsin Khan (3 for 20 in 4 overs) were the top wicket-takers.
While the result ensures LSG's route to the playoffs, it also sends KKR home after they suffered their eighth defeat and end the season with 14 points.
Earlier, opting to bat first, the opening duo shared the highest ever partnership in IPL, smashing 14 sixes and 13 fours in their knock. Their partnership was also the third highest for any wicket in IPL history.
None of the KKR bowlers could pose any challenge with Sunil Narine returning with figures of 0 for 27, while Tim Southee and Andre Russell conceded 57 and 45 runs in four and three overs respectively.

LSG under KL Rahul has 16 points from 13 matches and even though a defeat might not hurt their play-off chances but that will certainly put them in a tight place.
On the other hand, KKR led by Shreyas Iyer 12 points from 13 matches and a win is essential for them to maintain that slim chance to enter the play-offs.
A defeat will close the road for KKR as far as the IPL 2022 play-offs is concerned.
KKR will perforce have to make a change in the playing 11 as Ajinkya Rahane has been ruled out of the IPL 2022 with a hip injury, that might even jeopardise his chances to get picked for India's squad for the tour of England.
