Quinton de Kock is a professional South African cricketer who represents Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League. Born on December 17, 1992, in Johannesburg, South Africa, he is a left-hand batsman of the top order. He is known for his explosive batting coupled with the efficient display behind the stumps.
In 2009, Quinton de Kock made his debut for South African domestic side Gauteng at the age of 16. He also competed for South Africa's Under-19 team and scored the highest number of runs at Australia, 2012 ICC Under-19 World Cup.
After slowly progressing through the ranks, he made his T20I debut in place of the regular keeper AB de Villiers against a visiting New Zealand squad in 2012. He left a good impression on the series. He made his ODI debut next in January 2013 against the same country. However, he experienced an underwhelming tournament.
After another mediocre series against Sri Lanka in July 2013, he was dropped from the side. He was called back into the ODI team in November 2013 and it was the time he announced himself on the big stage. He scored an aggressive century against Pakistan and recorded three successive hundreds against a strong Indian team in December 2013.
In March 2014, he made his T20 debut against Australia and was named the Player of the Series. He also made his Test debut the same year.
The wicket-keeper batsman, since then, has been an influential member of the South African Cricket team. He has also led South Africa in all three formats of the game.
De Kock has already accomplished some incredible successes for someone his of age, and it is easy to regard why many hail him as one of the South African Crickets' finest.
In his Indian Premier League tenure over the years and took some time to establish himself as a dangerous batter. He made his debut in IPL with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013 but managed an underwhelming campaign with just scoring only six runs in three matches.
He was bought by the Delhi Daredevils for Rs 3.5 crores next year in 2014. After two years of struggle, he truly bombed into the scenes in 2016 when he recorded 445 runs with a highest score of 108.
He left Delhi in 2018 and was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 2.8 crores next year. But he failed to live up to his talent, scoring just 201 runs in 8 games, and he was released the following year. He was purchased next by Mumbai Indians for Rs 2.8 crores, and he tasted the most success in this period. He accumulated over 500+ runs in both the 2019 and 2020 campaigns, winning the trophy in consecutive seasons. He, however, was released by the franchise before the 2022 mega auctions.
Lucknow SuperGiant bought him for Rs. 6.75 crores. He piled up 508 runs in 15 matches, including a knock of an unbeaten 140 runs against the Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2022 IPL.
