  • New Zealand are undefeated in their last three men’s Tests against England (W2, D1); they had not won in any of their 11 meetings prior (D4, L7). This will be the 50th men’s Test played between New Zealand and England in New Zealand; more than half (26) of the previous 49 have ended in draws (NZ won 5, England won 18). New Zealand cliched a 1-0 win in their last men’s Test series against England (2018, W1, D1) and will now be aiming to win back-to-back series against them for just the second time, also doing so in1984 and 1986. This will be the first Test played at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui; it is set to be the ninth venue in New Zealand at which a men’s Test match has been played. New Zealand are undefeated in their last nine men’s Test on home turf (W6, D3); indeed four of those six wins have come by an innings margin including each of the last two. England have won the toss only twice from nine men’s Tests thus far in 2019; however, they’ve gone on to win each of their last seven Tests when they’ve won the toss on the day. Since the beginning of 2013, England have won only two of their 11 men’s Test series played away from home; their most recent series win away from home came in Sri Lanka in late 2018 (also v SA in 2015/16). Stuart Broad (England) is set to play his 133rd Test for England, equalling Alec Stewart as the third-most capped player for England in the format. Trent Boult (New Zealand) snared 15 wickets in the last men’s Test series between New Zealand and England, more than any other player during that series and his second-most ever in a single Test series (20 vs West Indies in 2013/14). Ben Stokes (England) has hit 627 Test runs in 2019 – the third most of any player from any country – at an average of 48.2, his best Test average in a calendar year.
