Joe Root IPL Profile

Joe Root is an England international and one of the most recognized cricketers at present. He began his career as a right-handed opening batsman and occasional off-spinner before switching to the middle order, where he has spent most of his time playing cricket.

Root, who was born on December 30, 1990, comes from a long line of cricket players. While his brother Billy Root is a mainstay in the Glamorgan lineup, his father was the captain of Rotherham CC in the Yorkshire League for several years.

Root made his Test and ODI debut for England in 2012 and 2013 respectively. He scored 73 runs in 289 minutes in his Test debut match and made the world take notice of a great player in the making. Since then, he has gone from strength to strength in each passing year. Some of his important knocks include - a sensational 180 at Lord’s in the Ashes in 2013, his career-best Test score of 254 against Pakistan in 2016, etc.

He is also the youngest English player to score a century at a World Cup in 2015 against Sri Lanka. Root held England's Test captaincy hat between February 2017 and April 2022. He became the sixth English player to slam a century in his debut game as captain. He was named Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2020 New Year Honours for his contributions to cricket, and he won the ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the Year award for 2021.

The 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League is Root's first experience in the tournament. He put his name in 2018 for the auction but went unsold. In between these years, he constantly prioritized Test cricket and skipped the auctions. But this time he will officially enter the tournament after Rajasthan Royals took him for Rs. 1 crore in the accelerated auction.
