Official: Inter Complete Signing of Fiorentina Midfielder Matias Vecino

Inter announce signing of Uruguay international defender Matias Vecino from fellow Serie A club Fiorentina.

Rome, August 3: Inter Milan have officially completed the signing of Uruguay international midfielder Matias Vecino from Fiorentina on a four-year deal, the Italian club confirmed on Wednesday (August 2).

The 25-year-old passed a medical at the end of the last week and addressed Inter's official website after putting pen to paper on a deal till 2021 insisting his inspiration for executing the move.

"I am really happy to be here in Milan and it is a very important moment for me," he said. "I will start working with the squad tomorrow and I hope to start well."

"I have been in Italy for a few years now and I believe that I am the right age and have the experience to make this a positive adventure. I hope to flourish whilst wearing this great shirt."

Vecino has made 112 Serie A appearances for Fiorentina, Empoli and Cagliari since coming to Serie A, scoring nine goals. He plays in central midfield and is known for his disciplined football.

Prior to his move to Fiorentina in January 2013, Vecino played for Uruguayan club Nacional and alongside Inter legend Alvaro Recoba, who won two Serie A titles during his 10 years stay at the Nerazzurri club.

Recoba, the former teammate of the defender heaped praise on his compatriot.

"He is one of the greatest Uruguayan players," Vecino said.

"I had the fortune of playing with him at Nacional and together we helped the team win the championship. He was one of the first to call me after I linked up with Inter and I can only thank him because he helped me a lot in Uruguay."

Vecino is the second player to leave Fiorentina for Inter this Summer after their star midfielder Borja Valero joined the Milan club at the start of the transfer window. The Uruguay international is the fifth signing made by the new manager Luciano Spalletti after arriving from Roma.
