Daniel Sams is an Australian all-rounder who represents Lucknow Super Giants in Indian Premier League. He has made a name for himself as a death-over specialist who possesses a well-disguised slower ball among many other skills. Born on 27 October 1992, Sams has played for various domestic teams in Australia, including the New South Wales Blues, the Sydney Thunder, and the Sydney Sixers.
He started his domestic career with Canterbury in the 2017–18 Plunket Shield season on 30 October 2017. He immediately proved his worth with a sublime debut show. In his first-ever innings, he bowled 25 overs, which included 9 maidens and 3 wickets. Sams continued his impressive domestic performance further and first came into the limelight following his stint in Big Bash League.
He made his T20 debut for Sydney Sixers Cricket in the 2017–18 Big Bash League and took taking four wickets for fourteen runs. He continued the same form in the next seasons of the Big Bash as well and picked up 30 wickets. On the back of his impressive numbers, he made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut for in December 2020 against India.
His Indian Premier League journey started in 2020. The Australian international got a chance in the tournament by luck at first. Sams was picked up by the Delhi Capitals side after Jason Roy pulled out of the tournament due to personal reasons. However, he did not play a single game in the tournament and the following season saw him playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
His tenure with RCB however ended in an underwhelming fashion. He picked up just 1 wicket in the 2021 season and subsequently was released by the franchise the next year. Mumbai Indians picked him up ahead of the IPL 2022 and it turned out to be a blessing for him. He registered 13 wickets in an impressive tenure. However, the 2023 IPL will see him in different colours once again after he was snapped up by Lucknow in the auction.
