Daryl Mitchell IPL Profile

Daryl Mitchell, known for his versatility and reliable finishing abilities, represents the New Zealand cricket team across all formats of the game. Born on May 20, 1991, he plies his trade as a batting all-rounder, operating as a right-handed batter and right-arm medium pacer. 

Mitchell, who represented Canterbury in domestic cricket, is the son of New Zealand rugby union coach and former player John Mitchell. After making over 200 appearances in New Zealand's domestic cricket system, he finally made his international debut in 2019. 

The Hamilton-born carved out a reputation for himself as a versatile cricketer, playing any given role assigned to him at the international circuit. Notably, he went on to cement his reputation as a reliable finisher especially noted for his acumen to finish the games. 

Daryl Mitchell scored his maiden Test century early in 2021 during an innings victory over Pakistan in Christchurch. He followed up with his maiden ODI century against England in March of the same year, which came in a winning cause. Mitchell showcased his potential during the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE, where he was promoted as an opener and played a quintessential role in New Zealand's journey to the finals. 

His standout performance came against England in the semi-finals where he scored an unbeaten 72. He often drew plaudits for his potential to showcase his resilience and skill in challenging conditions and rightly so, he became a regular feature for the New Zealand cricket team.

The New Zealand international was roped in by Rajasthan Royals for his base price of INR 75 lakh. However, he didn’t get enough game time as he made two appearances for the inaugural IPL champions before he was released by the franchise. CSK recruited him for INR 14 crore at the IPL 2024 auction and he became a part of the Yellow Army.
