Dewald Brevis IPL Profile

Born on 29 April 2003, Dewald Brevis is one of the emerging cricketers of South Africa who plies his trade with Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League. Popularly known as 'Baby AB' due to his playing style, shot selection, and ability to read bowlers, Brevis has been a utility player in the shortest format of the game.

Besides power-hitting, he is also capable of being practical if the situation demands and can anchor an inning grinding out runs playing in any position. This highlights his capability to play in a variety of ways which makes him a great asset for any side. He also can come in handy with occasional right-arm leg-spin bowling with brilliant fielding ability.

Brevis started his professional career with Northerns during the 2021–22 domestic cricket season in South Africa. After impressing during the campaign, he earned a place in the U-19 South African side and flew out further to the West Indies for the Under-19 World Cup. In the grandest stage, he proved his worth and scored two centuries and three fifties while winning the 'Player of the Tournament accolade. He scored 506 runs, which is a record for the highest number of runs scored at an ICC U-19 tournament.

On the back of his massive outing, Mumbai Indians snapped him up ahead of the IPL 2022 following high-voltage bidding. They signed him for Rs. 3 crore. He experienced a decent debut season in IPL where he scored 161 runs and picked up one wicket in seven games. He is part of Mumbai Indians side in the 2023 IPL as well.
