KC Cariappa Biography

Konganda Charamanna Cariappa, Carri to his team-mates, is a leg spinner who represents Rajasthan Royals in Indian Premier League. Born on Apr 13, 1994, the Indian cricketer is popular for his tricky variations in his bowling skill sets and his ability to deceive batters with his spin acuity. He is a T20 specialist and made his List A debut in 2021, for Karnataka in Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Cariappa first came into the limelight after participating in the 2014 Karnataka Premier League for the Bijapur Bulls. He became the third-highest wicket-taker in the competition and picked up 11 wickets at an economy of 6. His heroics caught the eye of a few IPL scouts and Kolkata Knight Riders were one of them.
The Karnataka spinner impressed Gautam Gambhir & Co. at the KKR trial camp so much that they signed him in the 2015 auction for Rs 2.4 Crores, 24 times more than his base price. It undoubtedly was a massive amount considering Cariappa had not played any form of top-level cricket before. With an increasing demand for mystery bowlers in T20 cricket he also got a break in the IPL in the 2015 season.
The signing however proved to be a flawed move for the Kolkata-based side. He just played one match in the season against Royal Challengers Bangalore, clinching the wickets of AB de Villiers. He was released from his contract in 2016 although Punjab signed him next for 80 lakhs where he played for two seasons. After Shivam Mavi was injured in 2019, he went back to the Kolkata Knight Riders as a substitute next. Prior to the 2020 IPL auction, the Kolkata Knight Riders released him. He was then signed by Rajasthan Royal next in 2021 and was retained a year after in the auction again. He, however, did not play any game for RR in 2022.
