Luke Wood was born on August 2, 1995, in Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England. He specialises as a left-arm fast-medium bowler. He kick-started his first-class cricket career with Nottinghamshire, debuting against Sussex cricket team in September 2014.
Wood is known for his ability to deliver both swing and seam movement, which makes him particularly effective, especially in conditions that are well-suited to left-armers. His cricketing venture progressed significantly, and by 2022 he made his international debut for the national cricket team.
In April 2022, the left-arm fast-medium bowler joined the Trent Rockets for the season of The Hundred. He was hoping to get the taste of international cricket when he was selected for England's ODI squad for their series against the Netherlands in May 2022.
However, he didn't get an opportunity to express himself in that series. His international debut came in a Twenty20 International (T20I) match against Pakistan on September 20, 2022. In the same year, he made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Australia on November 17, 2022.
During the 2022-23 Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), he represented Sylhet Strikers franchise. He made a name for himself by delivering the goods significantly in Qualifier 2 by conceding just 3 runs in the penultimate over, which helped Sylhet reach the final.
On March 18, 2024, he was recruited by the Mumbai Indians as a replacement for the injured Jason Behrendorff, with a contract valued at INR 50 lakh, which marked another significant milestone in his growing cricket career. He made his IPL debut against Gujarat Titans at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on March 24, 2024.
