Obed McCoy IPL Profile

Born on January 4, 1997, Obed McCoy is a West Indies cricketer who plays for Rajasthan Royals in Indian Premier League. The young left arm is tailor-made for the T20 format pacer with a bag full of variations up his sleeve. A specialist death bowler and handy batsman in the lower middle order, McCoy is slowly making a name for himself in the shorter format of the game.

He first came into the limelight in the Global T-20 Canada competition in June 2018 after taking eleven wickets in seven matches for the Cricket West Indies B Team. He was the tournament’s highest wicket-taker as well. He was handed a CPL contract by St. Lucia Stars thereafter. After slowly making progress in domestic tournaments, in 2018 he made his international debut, in an ODI match against India. A few months later in 2019, he was added to the West Indies T20I squad for the series against England. He also featured in Pakistan Super League in 2021 and was part of the Multan Sultans team.

Rajasthan Royals signed him for Rs. 75 lakhs ahead of the IPL 2022. He experienced a fruitful season with RR delivering in some of the most crunch situations and helping his side reach the finals. He ended his debut IPL season with 11 wickets to his name in just seven games.

The West Indies pacer was also in the headlines for another reason in IPL 2022. After making his IPL debut and winning the match in the final over against Kolkata Knight Rider he paid a tribute to Indian cinema by bringing out the 'Pushpa' celebration, from the popular Allu Arjun movie. His celebration and antics went viral on social media.
