Rishi Dhawan IPL Profile

Rishi Dhawan is an Indian cricketer, who plays for Himachal Pradesh in domestic cricket. He is primarily a medium-fast bowling all-rounder, who also bats in the middle order. Known for subtle variations in his bowling, Dhawan was born on February 19, 1990, in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, India. 

He began his career at the age of 16 as an opening batsman for Himachal Pradesh, scoring a triple century in the Cooch Behar Trophy in 2006, grabbing public attention. Three years later, he was included in the Himachal Pradesh Ranji Team, where his bowling performances overshadowed his batting. 

Dhawan's potential was showcased to the public in the 2013-14 Ranji Trophy, as he took 49 wickets from 8 matches and became the highest wicket-taker in the event. Following this, Dhawan got an opportunity to be a part of India A for a limited-overs match against Australia in July 2014. Significantly, his outstanding batting performance in the final — an unbeaten 56 at No. 7 — aided India A in winning the match. Dhawan's consistent achievements in domestic cricket led him soon become a part of the national squad. Rishi made his ODI debut against Australia in January 2016 in Melbourne. The same year, he made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe.

Dhawan's IPL career hasn't hit the high notes as his domestic career but he played for several franchises. He first got an opportunity to be a part of the IPL 2008 season after Kings XI Punjab acquired his services. However, he missed the chance to play that year and instead made his IPL debut in 2013 with Mumbai Indians. Dhawan returned to the Punjab franchise in 2014 after playing six games for MI. 

Dhawan took 13 wickets in as many games in 2014 as the Kings XI finished runners-up to Kolkata Knight Riders. Dhawan, however, fell through the ranks in the next two seasons as he featured in just seven games over the next two seasons. He was subsequently released by the northern side and joined forces with KKR in 2017. The bowler, however, never made played a game for the purple-clad outfit hat season and went unsold at the next auction. 

He returned to IPL in 2022 with Punjab Kings buying him at the mega auction and remained a utility player, featuring in 12 games over two seasons.
