Sisanda Magala Biography

Sisanda Magala is a South African international who represents Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. Born on 7 January 1991, the right-arm pacer is regarded as one of the best death bowlers in South Africa. He can keep his cool in tense situations and is deadly in limited-overs cricket with his sharp yorkers. Magala is also a useful right-handed batsman in the lower order with big hits under his belt.
He first came to prominence during the 2016 Africa T20 Cup representing the Eastern Province Cricket Team where he became the leading wicket-taker with 12 wickets. He, later, established himself at the Warriors franchise at the end of the season. In 2018 and 2019, he maintained the same impressive form playing for Nelson Mandela Bay Giants' and Cape Town Blitz respectively.
His amazing domestic display earned him a call-up to the national side in the white-ball squads to play against England and Australia in 2020 but fitness issues kept him out of the Playing XI. Although, he kept on performing in the domestic circuit and while playing for the Lions franchise in Johannesburg, he became the leading wicket-taker in the domestic one-day and T20 cups in the 2020-21 summer.
On the back of his impressive showcase, he again got a call in the national team and finally made his T20I debut against Pakistan in April 2021. He made his ODI debut on 26 November 2021 against the Netherlands next.
Magala has been a popular face in T20 domestic cricket in South Africa, however, the IPL 2023 is his first shot in the tournament. After getting unsold in the IPL auction, Magala has been picked up by the Chennai franchise after they lost Kyle Jamieson to injury. CSK bought him for his base price of Rs 50 Lakh.
