Dwaine Pretorius IPL Profile

Born on March 29 1989 in Randfontein, South Africa, Dwaine Pretorius is a South African cricketer who plays for Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. He is a right-arm pace bowler and is able to bowl at a consistently high pace. He bats in the lower order and possesses some explosive shots under his belt.

The bowling all-rounder's initial cricketing career was marred with injuries and he chose to pursue another option. He missed the 2008 Under-19 World Cup after tearing a cartilage in his right knee and picked an accounting degree for the next three years as his next goal. However, his passion for the game helped him make his return to cricket, and he dwelled in the lower ranks in the amateur leagues for a couple of seasons. 

He became pretty successful in T20 formats and played for a number of sides that includes Cape Town Knight Riders, Jozi Stars, Northamptonshire, etc. He also was drafted by the Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise team Peshawar Zalmi as their silver Category pick at the 2020 PSL draft.  

Pretorius' international debut, however, came in 2016 when he started against Ireland in an ODI match. Over the next few seasons, he featured in T20I and Test series against Australia, England, etc. However, he could not properly cement his place until he was rewarded with a national contract by Cricket South Africa ahead of the 2020–21 season. 

Pretorius is now in contention in all three formats of the game. In 2021, he made headlines after he took a five-wicket haul in T20Is, with a 5/17 figure against Pakistan.

On the back of his recent impressive show, the South African international also earned an IPL contract in the 2022 edition after he was bought by Chennai for his base price of Rs 50 lakhs. Pretorius ended the debut season with six wickets in his name. He is a part of the franchise for 2023 IPL also.
